Therapy is provided through play and modeling of speech
with young children. Goals are to increase receptive and
expressive skills, as well as to improve pragmatic skills
(social use of language). Examples of receptive
(comprehension) skills would be following directions, pointing
to named objects, and responding appropriately to “Yes/No” and
“Who, What, Where” questions. Expressive skills refer to
the child’s production in terms of syntax, semantics, and
phonology. Examples of expressive goals would be: to
expand vocabulary; to increase the length and complexity of
utterances through use of verb tenses, attributes, pronouns;
to improve intelligibility through reducing articulation
errors and phonological
processes. | | |
